Review: I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

Two
straight firefighters, who are best friends, pretend to be a gay
couple so that one of them can be insured for domestic benefits
which will protect his kids in case anything happens to him on the
job. Everything goes as planned, except the state insists that
they’re randomly monitored for a period of time to make sure that
they are in fact, a true gay couple. Straight, gay or whatever,
hilarity befalls us!

Boom!
Hands down, best Sandler movie since HAPPY GILMORE! I really
didn’t know what to expect or how they were going to play off the
whole subject matter, but this was one of the funniest movies I’ve
seen in a while. It started off a little slow, but I still had a
smile throughout, then it started to get really funny and then
"laugh out loud" funny. They used every style of humor and
made it work without going over the top…even the fart joke was
funny! The dialogue was cleverly written for Sandler and James, and
as a result, they shined as a great duo!

Kevin
James plays Larry, a widower and father of two. He played his
character well and his scenes with his kids were charming and funny.
I don’t know if I want to say that the “chemistry” between he
and Sandler was believable…but I guess it was and that’s
probably why it worked so well.

Sandler plays Chuck, a womanizer who basically has chicks
crawling over him at all times. I loved the fact that he wasn’t
playing this whiny character or quiet kinda guy with outbursts of
anger that he usually plays. Here he presented us with a regular guy
and made it work. And oh yeah, whoever was responsible for casting
all of the hot chicks in this film…please give them a raise! They
were stunning to gawk at and put a completely different kind of
smile on my face as well. I love it when a movie works on so many
levels like that.

But the one chick who out-chicked them all was Miss Jessica
“best ass in the universe” Biel…CRACK-BOOM! She plays Alex,
Chuck and Larry’s attorney. Her scenes with Sandler were hilarious
and her scenes in a cat suit…will be burned in my mind forever.
AAAND to top it off, she’s an amazing actress…well, at least in
this film she was.

It was also nice to see Dan Aykroyd playing a
supporting role with this generation’s comedy icons; it was like
he was handing them the torch or something. An unexpected surprise
was Ving Rhames…this guy is genius! I don’t know how he pulled
it off, but he made badass funny and that’s all I’m saying about
him. Of course, we can’t forget about the cameos. I love a good
cameo and even they were funny as brief as they were. I was still
expecting Will Ferrell to pop up somewhere.

I just don’t see how anyone can be offended
by this movie. I think I can say it was tastefully done. I don’t
care who you are (unless you’re a real stick in the mud), this is
a great comedy that almost anyone will appreciate and most
importantly, laugh their asses off! (I know me and my buddy Rob did)
I’m not going to say this is the "Brokeback of comedies"
(oh no, watch them use that quote on the DVD), this is something
completely original and hilarious! If you are homophobic, rest
assured there’s nothing to be phobic about in this flick! If you
want an awesome laugh, definitely go check it out!
