Taron Egerton dismisses rumors he’s being considered to play Wolverine

For well over a year now, fans have been using social media to give their two cents about who should take on the role of Wolverine since Hugh Jackman has retired himself from the character after a very successful run. One of the names that have popped up several times as a worthy replacement has been ROCKETMAN'S Taron Egerton. The talented young actor is aware of the fan demand but he's insisting that he has not been approached to take on the fan-favorite character.

While speaking with "GQ" about his upcoming film TETRIS, Egerton insisted that there is no truth to the rumors that he's in line to play Wolverine in the MCU:

"That anyone thinks I would be good for the part is really flattering. I love Marvel, but it's just fan stuff. There is no grounding for those rumors."

For those of that don't know, in 2019 Disney bought 20th Century Fox, the studio that owned the film rights to Wolverine and the X-Men. Since then, Marvel Studios, also owned by Disney, has likely been mulling over on how to incorporate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The details have been pretty vague on how or when the X-Men will join the MCU so that has left fans to speculate on who could fill the Wolverine role because the assumption is that he will be key to the MCU since the character is insanely popular.

Hugh Jackman completed his run as Wolverine in James Mangold's critical and commercial success, LOGAN. This capped off an impressive nine-film experience for Jackman that spanned seventeen years. This then led to fans speculating who would be a worthy successor and Egerton was brought into the fan talk for a few reasons that would make him an interesting casting choice.

Egerton is closer to the height of the comic book character, who is actually supposed to be a lot shorter than Jackman’s over-six-foot character was. Secondly, like Jackman, Egerton began his career in theater, appearing in the musicals Oliver! and Beauty and the Beast. Secondly, Egerton and Jackman have worked together before in the film EDDIE EAGLE, which creates more of a connection between the two actors for fans to picture a passing of the torch. All he would need to do is pack on some muscle and the rest would fall into place because Egerton has proven to be one of the better actors of his generation so there is no doubt, in my opinion, that he has the chops to pull this off.

At the end of the day, this all began as fan speculation and unless Egerton is being coy, he has likely not been approached to play the role but one has to wonder if Marvel Studios has been paying attention to the pleas of fans to give Egerton a shot. I honestly can't personally think of anyone who can fill Jackman's shoes at this point and maybe the right choice is to give Wolverine a rest when the X-Men are introduced again since the character dominated all the X-MEN films that he appeared in.

Do YOU Think Taron Egerton would be a good Wolverine? Should Marvel give the character a rest before giving him another shot in the MCU?
