Guillermo Del Potter?

I can’t think of a better fir than Guillermo Del Toro directing HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, and according to what he recently told MTV, if he had his way it could happen:

“I’m definitely interested,” he insisted, “now that the movies have grown darker. They have a contrast between the gloomy existence of the kid and the world he’s exposed to. They have evolved into a really nice universe.”

I can understand why he’d want to direct this film. It’s a guaranteed cash-cow and its aesthetic sensibilities mirror his own. But wouldn’t a man with a pulsing imagination have the desire to create more of his own world, rather than grabbing the reigns of already-established ones? He’s already done two HELLBOY movies, so another direct adaptation would mean less grotesqueries directly his own mind. But what am I talking about? By this logic, Peter Jackson hasn’t shown us much other than sheer filmmaking prowess. What I’m saying is that after so many fantasy adaptations, PAN’S LABYRINTH was refreshing because it was created especially for the cinema. It’s as if Del Toro wrote a novel for the screen, a true fairytale. But I’m ranting. This would be a great way to end an already perfectly-handled franchise, as far as talent goes. Next up for Del Toro is HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY, and the sixth Potter film drops in November
