Now that STAR TREK has succeeded in reinventing a beloved sci-fi franchise, look for other properties to hop on that bandwagon. First up is BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, which is getting the relaunch treatment. Before the fanboys and girls out there get too excited, Joss Whedon has absolutely nothing to do with it. Vertigo Entertainment is working with Fran Rubel Kuzui, who directed the rather bland Kristy Swanson film, to develop a new BUFFY feature. They want to relaunch the film a la STAR TREK where they try to develop a new audience without alienating the fans of Whedon's work (yeah, good luck). The news could be the best ever for Kuzui who hasn't directed a single thing since 1992's BUFFY hit theaters.

Now I'm not BUFFY fan but isn't this the worst idea ever? Wasn't the original film pretty much universally hated while Whedon's series was almost universally loved? And it's not like STAR TREK where a sufficient amount of time has passed from the original incarnation to the remake. Then again, if they decide to explore Buffy's lesbian tendencies, I might be inclined to pay $8 for a ticket...

Maybe the remake will be okay if it's played by the Buffy on the TV show with Sarah whats the point if it's neither her or the original Buffy. Didn't the orginal Buffy die after the movie? Isn't that why she wasn't in the series? That would be a good reason. I mean Buffy int he Tv show fell in Love with two Vampires. Her last one Spike was the best. they should maybe a Buff movie about the TV s...

Ellen Page as Buffy?
I love the show and think this will be a horrible movie if done without Whedon. If they had to start over with a new cast I think Ellen Page would be a good Buffy. Anyone else think so?

Is this one of your jokes? I thought Joss Whedon owned the rights to everything Buffy related. He did write the original script for the 1st movie, but they changed it.

If they're going to relaunch anything Joss Whedon related, they should do "Firefly" -- It has a huge cult following and just didn't hit the right audience! But now that everyone's into space stuff again, it's the perfect time for the cast to return and the show/movie to resurface!

This is just awful news! SERIOUSLY! It's almost as bad as people wanting to remake an American version of Spaced. (Well, maybe not that bad, but I was a die hard Buffy fan when the show first aired and hearing this is just plain upsetting.)

I might be much more for this if I knew that Whedon would have a say in this. But the fact that I have read they are going to get all new act...

As far as Buffy goes it had a nice 7 season run and it ended on a high note, and why bother rebooting what was a pretty shitty movie to begin with.

this is by far one of the most retarded and stupid and lazy bits of news I have read about Hollywood. At least Star Trek had a solid reason to be revamped, I can't think of any single inkling as to why this is happening. May god have mercy on the earth if this is made.

This is a horrible idea...Hollyweird needs to come up with new fresh ideas instead of relying on hack execs who rely more on market research and corporate responses than the opinions of real fans of the subjects that they butcher...watch out though, since it is a Fox product, we can only hope it gets done wrong like Wolverine, Fantastic 4, and basically anything made by Fox in the last 5 years!!!

I never was a fan of Buffy, althought I kinda dug Angel, and I can respect Buffy and all of it's massive fan following.

I feel bad for you guys, I really do. This is an awful idea.

What the fuck is wrong with Hollywood? Is it such a taboo idea to CONTINUE a story??? Why can't they make a feature film featuring characters from Buffy and Angel? Is it really that complicated? Both Buffy and Angel were incredible series and were quite epic...now of course they're going to start all over with new people. What a bunch of horseshit. Hollywood is a joke.

Relaunch, so Buffy and the gang will be back in high school again? This sounds horrible, and most likely is trying to mooch off of some of the twilight success. Buffy just seems like an idea better suited for tv than movies.

Ugh, do they know what a reinvention means? It doesn't mean to bring a series back to its own, shitty, origins. Movie sucked, series rocked. So why is the movie being revisited?

I'm just going to throw this out there...you can't call it Buffy without the actual Buffy. I also don't think it would be a completely good idea to separate a reboot from the Whedon series. If you re-do it and it's not Buffy nor is it associated with the Whedon series it's just someone the vampire slayer. Needless to say I'm just sort of neutral on it all.
