Shatner's Trek lines

You probably have heard that at one point William Shatner had been written in to the new STAR TREK film in an ending cameo that would have made everyone’s day. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the scene was cut as either Abrams didn’t want it, or Shatner was approached and didn’t want to do it.
However, the folks over at TrekMovie have gotten their hands on the original script that featured Shatner, and we get to see his ending monologue that could have been.
Here’s an excerpt from the end:
As Kirk rejoins his crew for hugs and congratulations, we go to the BACK of the hangar… SPOCK PRIME. Watching. Moved beyond words. He turns and leaves them to it… as he goes…
KIRK/SHATNER (V.O.)
I know what you’d say — ‘It’s their turn now, Jim…’ And of course you’re right… but it got me thinking:
INT. STARFLEET HOSPITAL – EARTH – DAY
Our montage comes full circle as we END on Kirk’s transmission:
KIRK/SHATNER
Who’s to say we can’t go one more round? By the last tally, only twenty five percent of the galaxy’s been chartered… I’d call that negligent. Criminal even — an invitation. You once said being a starship captain was my first, best destiny… if that’s true, then yours is to be by my side. If there’s any true logic to the universe… we’ll end up on that bridge again someday.
Stops, grins. Because this is the part he needs to say most…
KIRK/SHATNER
Admit it, Spock. For people like us, the journey itself… is home.
Young Spock’s face. Lost in feelings that flood through him.

I'm glad they came to their senses and just snapped the movie closed instead of this like over long sappy shit where we get a glory shot of the whole NEW CAST all together, Bones says one more snappy line of dialogue, Pike over references the Kobyashi-Maru scenario. All bad stuff.
But the real killer is this...

But the real killer is this...
There's no need for Old Kirk at all.
We don't NEED Old Kirk singing happy birthday to Old Spock in a hologram pendant.
Why?
(How convenient how it just happens to be written that we've had glimpses of it, but NOW we're finding out HOW SPECIAL IT IS. Poor writing)
We don't need Spock to let us know they will be friends one day. Nor do we need to Old Spock, to prove to Young Spock anything about the friendship that will be with Young Kirk in the future.
THIS WHOLE THING defies and contradicts what Old Kirk says at the end and makes it all the more pointless:
KIRK
Admit it, Spock. For people like us, the
journey itself... is home.
By Old Spock giving Young Spock that hologram of Old Kirk totally takes away from the journey. It detracts from LETTING Young Spock have his personal evolution, it detracts from the "journey" itself.
And it's just bad writing.
Seems only the good stuff made it to the screen from this draft. So, whichever guy does the bulk of the editing- Kurtzman or Orci, THAT guy saved the fuckin' movie. Could have been J.J Abrams as well who hit the brakes and stopped the shit-train.
Final note: The question that has to be asked, for this film is this: "Could Old Spock and Old Kirk share screen time again, whether it be thru a kitchy device, or some sorta gag, or even if BOTH actors were [link]
The answer: No.
Here's why: it's as simple as this- A triangle is more interesting than a square.
1. point being Young Spock
2. being Young Kirk
3. being Old Spock
When it's a square with point 4 being Old Kirk, it becomes cumbersome and uninteresting because it never has the relationship shape begging for that balance we all secretly want WHICH IS TO SEE OLD KIRK.
Old Kirk is better left as an off screen character that WE know will exist simply because Old Spock mentions him. It adds tension. Simple as that.
I will lay odds someone figured that out, EXACTLY the way I have it set up, and that's why there was no Old Kirk in any incarnation.
