Kickboxer remake sequel already being planned

11.25.2015

Kickboxer: Vengeance John Stockwell Alain Moussi Jean-Claude Van Damme Dave Bautista Banner

Headmon Entertainment and Acme Rocket Fuel must be feeling pretty confident about their KICKBOXER remake, which apparently is now being called KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE. The upcoming film is still in post-production and doesn't even have a set release date yet, but the production companies have announced that funding is already in place for a sequel that will be titled KICKBOXER 2: RETALIATION.

Directed by John Stockwell's (IN THE BLOOD, TURISTAS), KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE stars stuntman Alain Moussi as "Kurt Sloan, a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother's death at the hands of Tong Po," with Dave Bautista playing Tong Po and original KICKBOXER star Jean-Claude Van Damme playing the martial artist who teaches Sloane how to fight Po. Moussi will be back for the sequel, but with producer/screenwriter Dimitri Logothetis directing instead of Stockwell.

KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE also stars Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre and Sara Malakul Lane, and is expected to open sometime in 2016.

A few lousy sequels and one reboot later, Tong Po is still not played by an actual Thai actor/boxer.

wasn't there already a Kickboxer sequel with Van Damme? I'll check out the trailer, and see if it's worth watching.

In some sense, the premise does sound like Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li and we all know how that turns out to be.

yeah ! you are absolutely right !
if you are a fan of martial art video games like me, DO NOT Watch the big screen adaptation of TEKKEN and THE KING OF FIGHTERS... van Damme's Street Fighter and the legend of chun li will seem masterpieces in comparison...

I did watch Tekken and it was a mess! I was scratching my head the whole movie. And you're right, Ernesto, Van Damme's Street Fighter (can't believe it's been decade that Raul Julia passed away RIP) and The Legend of Chun Li look like masterpiece. However, personally I think the best video game movie adapation is Mortal Kombat. It got everything just right, particularly the fight between Liu Kang and Sub Zero.

Yes ! mortal Kombat is awesome ! (not the awful sequel Mortal Kombat Annihilation)
in a more recent release, I recommend DOA Dead or Alive, wich was a lot of dumb fun and hot girls...

100% agree
those kind of movies are banned from theatrical realeses and are made for DTV and VOD market... It's not the 80's nor the 90's anymore
