The Oranges gets cast with Hugh Laurie, Leighton Meester and many more

Jay Reiss and Ian Helfer’s THE ORANGES sat atop last years “Black List” of best unproduced screenplays, but now the curtain has been lifted and the film is being made, with a complete cast and a director to boot.

The movie is said to be a dark comedy about suburban romance, and the full roster includes Hugh Laurie, Catherine Keener, Leighton Meester, Allison Janney, Oliver Platt, Alia Shawkat, Adam Brody and Sam Rosen. The film is currently being shot in New York by director Julian Farino who, interestingly enough, has directed 23 episodes of Entourage. Oook.

I’m always up for more dark comedies, if done correctly, and I have to say it’s nice to see Hugh Laurie getting out there in movie land. He’s one of those actors where you wonder why he hasn’t hit it big in the film business yet, when he’s such a powerful actor on his week-to-week show (much like Bryan Cranston). I guess a million episodes of House can be rather time consuming.

Also a welcome presence is Leighton Meester, which gives me the opportunity to post this excellent picture:
