In news that is sure to induce more than a few groans and eye rolls comes word from The Playlist that THE HUNGER GAMES and SEABISCUIT director Gary Ross has been set to helm an all-female OCEAN'S ELEVEN movie, with Sandra Bullock in the lead.

Olivia Milch (QUEEN & COUNTRY, LITTLE WOMEN) has turned in a draft of the script, and apparently late producer Jerry Weintraub, OCEAN'S director Steven Soderbergh, and franchise star George Clooney started work on the project last year.

The site goes on to say "It's unclear how directly connected (or not) this remake/reboot/sequel/spinoff will be to the Soderbergh pictures, but everyone is keen on this new ‘Ocean’s’ project," and that there's a chance Clooney will cameo as Danny Ocean. The all-women OCEAN'S flick is expected to be Ross' next movie after THE FREE STATE OF JONES, which is scheduled to open on May 13, 2016.

Like Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS, this just seems incredibly gimmicky to me. Why can't it be an original heist movie featuring an all-female team? I'm going to reserve (some) judgement until all the details about the planned film come out though, and maybe it won't turn out as bad as I'm picturing it in my head. Who would you like to see star alongside Sandra Bullock in Gary Ross' gender-swapping OCEAN'S ELEVEN?
