Kindergarten Cop is getting an Arnold Schwarzenegger-less reboot

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

KINDERGARTEN COP is the latest movie getting the remake treatment, this time without anyone close to the caliber of Ivan Reitman or Arnold Schwarzenegger involved. According to Showbiz 411, the new KINDERGARTEN COP is being developed by Universal's 1440, a division responsible for VOD sequels. Their sources also claim the producers are looking for a potential TV star to headline the project which means this is likely not going to be a major theatrical production.

The new KINDERGARTEN COP is set to be directed by Don Michael Paul who has helmed other esteemed productions like TREMORS 5, JARHEAD 2 and LAKE PLACID: THE FINAL CHAPTER. AMERICAN PIE screenwriter David H. Steinberg is writing the movie which sounds very familiar except now the lead cop will be partnered with an Indian sidekick named Sanjit rather than a woman like in the 1990 original.

They’re on the trail of a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness protection program. Somehow it’s wound up in a kindergarten class. Flimsy premise, but it puts him side by side with a beautiful teacher and they hit it off. There’s also bad guys involved– this time they’re Albanian.

All in all, this is a terrible idea. If it was Arnold reprising his role as John Kimble, I would have been slightly intrigued. But, this just sounds like another bad Redbox offering. I would have been more offended if Universal was not involved. Instead, I am just embarrassed. What made KINDERGARTEN COP work was Arnold playing a comedic role, which was less common for him 25 years ago. Similar movies have been made since with Vin Diesel (THE PACIFIER) and Dwayne Johnson (THE TOOTH FAIRY) and none have been very good.

Don't hold your breath for this one.
