A pizza place built atop a gateway to Hell serves up horror in Slice trailer

Did someone order a B-movie horror comedy with a side of murder? I sure hope so, because I don't know if a pizza pie made with blood instead of marinara sauce is going to taste good cold. Alright, enough of these delicious food-related jokes, let's get to the good stuff. SLICE is an upcoming movie directed and written by music video helmer Austin Vesely. In the past, Vesley and Chance the Rapper have collaborated for the making of several music videos featuring the Chicago-born musician (including Brain Cells, Sunday Candy and Angels).

SLICE tells the tale of what happens when a pizza delivery driver is murdered on the job, and the city searches for someone to blame. Are ghosts at fault? Drug dealers? A disgraced werewolf? The crew at Perfect Pizza have their theories, and they has an awful lot to do with the rumor that their place of employment was built atop a gateway to Hell.

Starring in the off-beat culinary comedy are DEADPOOL 2 and ATLANTA alumna Zazie Beetz, Chance Bennett a.k.a. Chance the Rapper, Katherine Cunningham (MIND GAMES, JUPITER ASCENDING), Joe Keery (STRANGER THINGS, MOLLY'S GAME), Y'lan Noel (THE FIRST PURGE), Paul Scheer (VEEP, THE LEAGUE), Austin Vesley, Rebecca Spence (CONTAGION, PUBLIC ENEMIES), Rae Gray (DISMISSED, FOR THE PEOPLE), and Will Brill (THE OA, NOT FADE AWAY), among others.

Back in 2016, Vesley spoke with music website Pigeons & Planes about the movie, saying that “People ask me often if the film is really scary. I hope it has its moments but it’s more of a comedy for me. Tonally, I was really inspired by Twin Peaks, if that says anything,” Vesely said. “I studied Paul Thomas Anderson’s movies to figure out how to balance multiple narratives. TV shows as well, like Twin Peaks, to discover how to establish a sense of place. I guess this movie is like Magnolia with ghosts. Just kidding. Kind of.”

In addition to the above trailer, there some pretty hilarious posters were also released for the film, which spoof several pizza chains like Domino's, Pizza Hut, and Little Caesar's. You can check them out for yourself below:
