New image from A Quiet Place: Part II shows us when the sequel takes place

A Quiet Place: Part II, A Quiet Place, Horror, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski

The first image for A QUIET PLACE 2 has stealthily crept onto the internet, giving us a great look at how much time has passed between the original and its highly-anticipated sequel. The pic arrives courtesy of Total Film, and shows the Abbott family – made up of Emily Blunt's Evelyn, Noah Jupe's Marcus, and Millicent Simmonds' Regan – gingerly trekking through overgrown pasture, hoping to avoid creatures that are eager to eviscerate anything with a pulse that dares to make even a single sound.

Released in 2018, John Krasinski's A QUIET PLACE took fans of the horror-suspense genre by surprise with its intense premise, grotesque creature design, and captivating performances by the feature's limited cast of characters. The spine-tingling thriller earned $340.9 million at the worldwide box office throughout its theatrical run, and appeared on a number of Top 10 lists at the close of 2018.

After performing like gangbusters for Paramount, the studio was quick to approach Krasinski about developing a sequel, though the JACK RYAN star wasn't keen to continue the story … at least, not at first. After passing the idea of a follow-up around to a couple of filmmakers, Paramount was contacted by Krasinski, who informed the studio that he'd had a change of heart as well as a solid idea for another film in the Quiet series. At first Krasinski was only interested in penning the screenplay, but eventually came around to serving as director, much like he did for the original.

Plot details for A QUIET PLACE: PART II are being kept under wraps at this time, though today's image suggests that the film will continue the Abbott family journey as they seek to navigate an area patrolled by blood-thirsty creatures. They'll have a time of it, too, as Evelyn now carries an infant child in her arms, and we all know how young ones like to wail their woes with impassioned frustration. Judging by the ages of the Abbott children, my guess is that A QUIET PLACE: PART II picks up shortly after the events of the original.

While speaking with Total Film, Krasinski told the outlet that the sequel will find Blunt's Evelyn struggling with the concepts of thriving and survival:

I love the idea of the first one, that Emily and I as characters were all about surviving versus the thriving. All [my character] wanted to do was survive,” adds Krasinski. “And [her character] says, ‘That’s not enough. We have to thrive. We have to let these kids be whole human beings’. And after I’m gone, I’m loving seeing Emily really battle with that – that maybe survival was the way to go. And maybe this idea of thriving was too dangerous.

While a teaser trailer for this film has been playing ahead of screenings for BLACK CHRISTMAS, fans can expect a full trailer to drop within the next month.

A QUIET PLACE: PART II will creep into theaters on March 20, 2020.
