After being teased on the Netflix Geeked Twitter page yesterday, the streamer has dropped the full trailer for Umbrella Academy season 3 and it teases a major new location: Hotel Oblivion.

Hotel Oblivion was introduced in 2019’s Vol.3 and it served as an alternate dimension location that was created by Reginald Hargreeves as a prison for defeated supervillains. The goal was to either keep them away from the world and reform but it also was a trap for a dangerous primordial creature that devours anything and everything that gets in its way. After Hargreeves dies, the prisoners of Hotel Oblivion break out and leave but they also inadvertently release the hungry creature out into the world. Is this where Umbrella Academy is going in season 3? There is a short shot of a location called Hotel Obsidian and some think that this alludes to the Hotel Oblivion arc. The third novel is the Hotel Oblivion story but season three is obviously leaning in heavily on the Sparrow Academy, although creator Gerard Way didn’t introduce them until the end of Vol.3. Clearly, plots are going to play fast and loose with the source material so we will have to see how this plays out.

The season 3 trailer also gives us a great look at Elliot Page’s return as Viktor which should be pretty exciting for fans of the series. When we left the gang at the end of season 2, it was on a cliffhanger in which the titular group finally made it home from 1963. What they come to realize is that their efforts to stop the apocalypse have messed with time and resulted in the creation of the Sparrow Academy. This means that the Umbrella Academy will have to come to blows with the alternate team that is led by the previously deceased Ben Hargreeves.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the Dark Horse Comics created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Ba. The show follows a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an impending apocalypse. The series stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Colm Feore, Ritu Arya, Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, Cazzie David, Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton, and Jordan Claire Robbins.

Did YOU like the season 3 trailer? Umbrella Academy’s third season hits Netflix on June 22, 2022.
