Wyrmwood: Apocalypse trailer: Australian zombie sequel is coming to the U.S. in April

Last Updated on March 28, 2022

Two weeks ago, we heard that the Australian zombie movie Wyrmwood: Apocalypse would be released in the United States on May 17th – and copies are already available for pre-order at THIS LINK. With the release date drawing near, a new trailer has now arrived online, and you can check that out in the embed above. We’ve also learned that the film is getting a digital release in the U.S. on April 14th, so horror fans will have the chance to check it out a month earlier than expected!

Directed by Kiah Roache-Turner from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Tristan Roache-Turner, Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is a sequel to the 2015 film Wyrmwood, a.k.a. Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, which earned an 8/10 review from our own Jake Dee. You can read that HERE. This one follows

Rhys, a soldier in a zombie-infested Australian wasteland who has dedicated his life to tracking and capturing survivors for the Surgeon General in hopes of finding a cure. Rhys teams up with a group of super-powered survivors to save a young woman from death by military experimentation.

Luke Mckenzie, Shantae Barnes-Cowan, Tasia Zalar, Jake Ryan, Nicholas Boshier, Jay Gallagher, and Bianca Bradey star.

Kiah Roache-Turner had this to say about Wyrmwood: Apocalypse:

If the first one was like Mad Max, the second had to be Mad Max 2: bigger, bolder and genuinely pumping, with zombies, car chases, explosions and a giant cyborg. It’s basically the film we wanted to make in 2014 but didn’t have the money.”

Co-funded by Screen Australia and Screen NSW, the sequel was produced by Guerilla Films’ Tristan Roache-Turner and Bronte Pictures’ Blake Northfield.

I haven’t seen the first Wyrmwood yet, but the trailer for the sequel makes it look like this one is going to be a good time. I might have to catch up on Wyrmwood sometime before April 14th so I can watch Wyrmwood: Apocalypse when it’s released.

If Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is successful, Kiah Roache-Turner has plans to make a third film in the franchise.

I’m already writing it in my head. We’d be crazy not to repeat this as soon as possible.”
