Cinderella trailer: Camila Cabello stars in new musical fairytale

Last Updated on August 10, 2021

Amazon Studios has unveiled the first official trailer for Cinderella, a live-action musical adaptation starring Camila Cabello. Nestled in a modern-day setting, the musical focuses on Cinderella (Cabello) and her dreams of opening her own dress shop. There's just one problem. Her controlling and abusive stepmother doesn't want Cinderella to interfere with her plans to pawn one of her daughters off on the kingdom's handsome prince. It's a classic fairytale setup with messages of empowerment and magic baked into a progressive presentation of a timeless tale.

Despite retreading ground on a tale as old as time, the trailer for director Kay Canon's Cinderella places a spirited spin on the story with plenty of songs, dance, and one very sassy Fairy Godmother. Okay, can we talk about Billy Porter for a moment? What a gift he is. First off, his energy is electric, and that dress, fabulous! Where was he when I needed a date for my senior prom?

In addition to Cabello and Porter, Cinderella also stars Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Nicholas Galizine, and Pierce Brosnan. The film is produced by Leo Pearlman, James Corden, Jonathan Kadin, and Shannon McIntosh and is scheduled to be released on September 3, 2021, on Amazon Prime Video.
