J.K. Simmons on Commissioner Gordon and possibly reprising J. Jonah Jameson

J.K. Simmons Justice League Spider-Man

In the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE, J.K. Simmons will be stepping back into the world of superheroes as Jim Gordon, Gotham City's Police Commissioner and ally of Batman (Ben Affleck), but fifteen years ago, Simmons played J. Jonah Jameson, the fast-talking Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Bugle with a vendetta against Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire). J.K. Simmons last played Jameson in SPIDER-MAN 3, and despite the three Spidey flicks which have been produced since then, we haven't seen the Daily Bugle honcho in the flesh. It's only a matter of time before Jameson makes an appearance, which has fans wondering just who could fill the shoes of J.K. Simmons, but when asked by Entertainment Tonight if he'd reprise the role, the actor said that he is at least remaining open to the idea.

Never say never. Obviously I had an amazing time with Sam Raimi and those movies and Toby and everybody… that was a great, great time and huge for my career and my life and just pure fun. If there were an opportunity to revisit that, I don't know though, how old is Spider-Man going to be if J. Jonah Jameson is this old? How come he's still so young?

Would you like to see Simmons reprise the role? Or should someone else play J. Jonah Jameson?

Commissioner Gordon is obviously quite a different character than ol' J.J., and although his role in JUSTICE LEAGUE won't be huge, J.K. Simmons says that it was "great to get my feet wet" before expanding the character in future DC movies. "I think as we delve further into Jim Gordon, and the planned sequel, what I'm hoping to find is some of his sort of tough guy, badass [qualities]," Simmons explained. "There have been so many incarnations of him, obviously in print and also on screen, and I think one of the aspects that I found the most interesting about him as I did my research, with my comic book nerd friends mostly, was that [he is] a tough guy." Simmons also spoke of his first meeting with JUSTICE LEAGUE director Zack Snyder, although admits to not knowing who he was when his agent first called him about the gig.

I don't know anything about show business, My agent called and said, 'Zack Snyder wants to meet with you,' and I was like, 'Awesome. Who's that?' And he was like, 'He's like one of the biggest directors.' Not even like, 'This is what it's about,' just, 'Go meet.' So we went and met and hit it off, 'cause he's a great guy, and we were several minutes into the meeting when I kind of saw this quizzical look and he goes, 'You have no idea why you're here, do you?' He said, 'Commissioner Gordon. I want you to play Commissioner Gordon.'

JUSTICE LEAGUE will hit theaters on November 17th.
