Anthony Mackie is haunted by the past in new Altered Carbon Season 2 trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The first trailer for ALTERED CARBON Season 2 has arrived! The next chapter of Netflix's techno thriller stars Marvel alum Anthony Mackie as the new face of Takeshi Kovacs, who was played by Joel Kinnaman (SUICIDE SQUAD) in Season 1.

The new trailer centers on Mackie's Kovacs, a former Envoy intelligence operative able to adapt quickly to new bodies and environments. As images of a dark and twisted future flash before our eyes, Kovacs speaks of ghosts, and how events from his former lives have come to haunt him. "This is a ghost story," Kovacs warns in the trailer. "Technology has conquered death. But with endless future, comes endless past. We're trailed by specters. They cling to us like shadows. But if you chase after your ghosts, you just might become one," says Kovacs, as scenes from the new season glitch and shutter like a restless fever dream of events yet to come.

You can read Netflix's official plot synopsis for ALTERED CARBON Season 2 below:

Altered Carbon takes place over 300 years in the future in a society transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent.

Season Two of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry).   After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy,  Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?

The events of ALTERED CARBON are based on ideas from Richard K. Morgan's sci-fi novel, which revolves around humans being able to upload their consciousness into different bodies, which the show refers to as "sleeves." Other cast members to be included as a part of the show's intense, new season are Simone Missick (LUKE CAGE) as Trepp, Lela Loren (POWER) as Danica Harlan, Dina Shihabi (TOM CLANCY'S JACK RYAN) as Dig 301, Torben Liebrecht (HOMELAND) as Colonel Ivan Carrera, James Saito (ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE) as Tanaseda Hideki, with Season 1 stars Renee Elise Goldsberry and Chris Connor returning as Quellcrist Falconer and Poe, respectively.

ALTERED CARBON Season 2 will premiere on Netflix beginning on February 27, 2020.
