The trailer for The Midnight Gospel deserves a surreal animated amen

Either I've gone back to my early college years or Netflix has unleashed the official trailer for ADVENTURE TIME creator Pendleton Ward's adult animated series THE MIDNIGHT GOSPEL. Oh, I'm just now being told that the trailer is indeed real, and that I'm not experiencing a series of intense flashbacks. Now that everything is coming up Milhouse, let us press on.

THE MIDNIGHT GOSPEL is an 8-episode adult animated series that focuses on Clancy, a space caster who embarks on a journey through strange and wondrous worlds. The show is set for an April 20 premiere, because of course it is.

Here's the official synopsis for THE MIDNIGHT GOSPEL:

The Midnight Gospel is the story of Clancy, a spacecaster with a malfunctioning multiverse simulator who leaves the comfort of his extra-dimensional home on the Chromatic Ribbon to interview beings living in other worlds. Created by Pendleton Ward (Adventure Time) and Duncan Trussell (Duncan Trussell Family Hour podcast), and animated by Titmouse.

The series, co-created by Pendleton Ward and actor-comedian Duncan Trussell, uses clips from Trussell's own podcast, titled Duncan Trussell Family Hour.

In addition to the upcoming release of THE MIDNIGHT GOSPEL, Ward is also gearing up for Cartoon Networks' Adventure Time revival series, titled ADVENTURE TIME: DISTANT LANDS. The aforementioned release will be comprised of four hour-long specials, the first of which will see its HBO Max premiere sometime next year. As if that's not enough, Ward is also in the midst of working on a Catbug animated series based on the popular recurring character of BRAVEST WARRIORS fame. While the coronavirus pandemic has halted production on several animated projects, it would appear as if a global crisis isn't about to stop Ward from continuing work on his variety of animated projects. So long as everyone remains safe, I say all the power to them!

THE MIDNIGHT GOSPEL, in all of its hallucinatory weirdness, will premiere on Netflix come April 20th.
