Bethesda unveils new badass dragonslaying trailer for their video game epic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

02.24.2011

I was never a big RPG video game guy growing up. The exceptions were only a few titles here and there (e.g. "Super Mario RPG" and Nintendo's subsequent "Paper Mario" titles), but the genre remained one that I never wholly embraced for one reason or another. Then I played "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion", and all of that suddenly changed as I fell madly in love with a game that had the audacity to have me hunt for f*cking flowers. Flowers! Damn you, Nirnroot!

That game changed my outlook on the genre completely and I've been a convert ever since. So when word came that "Elder Scrolls" developer Bethesda would finally be releasing their follow-up, "Skyrim", I jumped for joy. But in the time since the announcement, we've only had crumbs to sate our fantasy desires in the form of a tantalizing teaser (featuring the great voice of Max Von Sydow) and a collection of gorgeous-looking screenshots. That is, until now!

Below is the first gameplay trailer for "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and it is pretty fantastic, depicting beautiful in-game graphics, action both intense and quiet, and a world just waiting to be deeply explored. The game hits game consoles and PC on November 11th, and I already fully anticipate my social life vanishing from that moment on.

Let me douche out real quick...

1. Xenogears
2. Final Fantasy 7
3. Secret of Mana

Oblivion is in a class all it's own, though. Bethesda is the best, hands down.

Played the hell out of Morrowind.. Oblivion not so much as I played on PC and my computer at the time couldnt handle it well. Dragon Age II coming ina couple weeks and that should keep me busy till Skyrim comes out. Cant wait.
Tidbit: Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind. Anyone remember the Kings Field games for the original playstation? Those were the shit. Wonder what ever happened to that franchise.

5 good things made evident by this trailer

Well this gives some nice indications:
1. The original oblivion landscape is gonna be used thus we will see a lot of our old battlegrounds.
2. Since part of this is near the original areas in oblivion we will have a chance to see how things looked after the events in obilivion.
3. The formula seems to be open ended again so you can pick your style of combat.
4. Since there are multiple types of combat styles that also means we will get some of the same side quests to the main quests.
5.

5. The story in obilivion always put up the idea that the kings in the past had some dragon blood in them. With this latest addition it looks like we will see in fact if they truly do have the dragon dna in their blood or if its just a figure of speech.

p.s. On a side note you gotta wonder if this is just a mixing of blood for the dragonborn effect or did someone actually get it on with a sexy scaley. Hmmm

Good god. The character movement actually looks fluid and realistic at last. I cannot wait.

Looks great, can't wait!

I loved ES:IV:Oblivion & it had the best DLC I've ever played. This looks fantastic & I didn't even watch it in HD. If it's anything like the last game I'm already sold.

As far as your extra Tidbit, Oblivion is one of my favorites & I loved the 2 Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I & II.

This trailer should be a new verse in Lonely Island's "Jizz in my Pants", for real.

Has anyone else noticed that video game franchise trailers usually kick WAYYYYY more ass than most movie franchise trailers?

Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy Tactics
Xenogears
Suikoden II
and Mass Effect are just a few of my favorites. Most Japanese RPGS, but they have seriously stagnated this console generation while Western RPGs have innovated to the moon and back.

I've logged more hours that I want to admit on Oblivion (we're talking triple digits).

I still hold a special place in my heart for both Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast though. Those were two fine RPGs.

Oblivion is the only game I can say that I have played to 100% on two separate occasions. Morrowind will always hold a special place in my heart, but Oblivion might be my favorite game EVER, not even just in the RPG genre.

The sheer vastness of the game and it coming so early in the console's lifecycle made for a very special experience... and as such it's one of two Xbox 360 games I've never traded in and probably never will (along with Hitman Blood Money).
