New American Gods trailer details Shadow Moon’s biblically bloody journey

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Television certainly has come a long way in the past several years, what with many shows like GAME OF THRONES, PREACHER, THE WALKING DEAD, LEGION and several more going above and beyond the call of duty to entertain audiences with polished programming that feature some of the biggest names in Hollywood getting in on the action. The beauty of a long-form presentation is that creators can plot the details of their project a bit more carefully, and not have to worry about being confined to a near-two-hour window of opportunity in which to tell their stories. It's a hell of a time we're living in, and with the release of the new trailer for Starz and Neil Gaiman's AMERICAN GODS, it looks like things are about to get a whole lot cooler!

Here it is, folks, the brand-new trailer for Starz and Neil Gaiman's highly-anticipated tale of gods and monsters, AMERICAN GODS- premiering on Sunday, April 30 at 9PM ET/PT

As you can see, the trailer gives us a broader look at the epic tale of characters Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). As the story goes, AMERICAN GODS positions audience members to bear witness to a war waged between the Old Gods, mythological beasts, and the believers who increasingly refuse to pay tribute to them. Shadow Moon, an ex-convict, left to wander after the recent death of his wife, becomes a bodyguard and confidant to a cunning conman by the name of Mr. Wednesday. Here's the thing though, Mr. Wednesday is in actuality a powerful, old deity, whose mission to build an unholy army and reclaim his lost glory is the true aim of his wayfaring ways.

This show boasts a truly impressive cast, with stars the likes of Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Crispin Glover, Orlando Jones, Gillian Anderson, Cloris Leachman, Peter Stormare (AKA one of the best speaking voices in Hollywood), and Kristin Chenoweth in addition to several more all joining this exciting presentation of Gaiman's classic tale of Gods and deception.

AMERICAN GODS is being produced by FremantleMedia North America with Bryan Fuller (PUSHING DAISIES) and Michael Green (LOGAN) acting as the program's writers and showrunners. David Slade (HANNIBAL) will direct the pilot in addition to other episodes. Meanwhile, FMNA’s Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk will executively produce along with Fuller, Green, Slade, Adam Kane and Neil Gaiman

There's no doubt in my mind that this show will be a major hit with both existing fans of Gaiman's novel as well as newcomers to the enigmatic writer's weird and wonderful ways of storytelling. Furthermore, let's hope I'm right, seeing as Amazon has plans of their own to adapt Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's GOOD OMENS to their premiere streaming service
