The stories of Stephen King have been read, listened to and watched endlessly for decades, but the upcoming adaptation of the author’s classic PET SEMATARY has people leaving jarred and terrified as if experiencing the tale for the first time. The first reviews have been raving about the new version, and those glowing reviews for this demented feature are scattered across the final trailer that doesn’t shy away from the new approach the movie takes. If you were hoping to start your day on a pleasant, bright note, perhaps turn away now.

Our own JimmyO was on hand at SXSW last month to see the movie during its premiere, and gave it a glowing 8/10 review, writing, “Smartly written and directed with a quick pace and a few discomforting images, this return to the PET SEMATARY is certainly one worth taking." Opening this Friday (early shows Thursday), SEMATARY currently holds an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (in-line with 2017’s IT) and is tracking for a solid $25-30 million opening weekend going up against DC’s SHAZAM!

Here’s the synopsis:

Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
