Interview: An in-depth chat with Chad Stahelski on John Wick: Chapter 4

Last Updated on March 27, 2023

I’ve praised the John Wick franchise endlessly. All four movies have blown me away. And with John Wick: Chapter 4, the filmmakers behind this successful series made something incredible. Once again featuring Keanu Reeves as Wick. The new film also stars series regulars Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and of course, the terrific Lance Reddick. I have to say that it was absolutely heartbreaking to hear that he’d passed before the film came out – and before these interviews took place. Yet the new feature is a brilliant legacy to him, and proof that the fellas behind 87eleven Action really know how to make masterful action cinema. And, judging by the early box office numbers, audiences are still excited about the franchise in a big way.

When we first spoke to Chad Stahelski for this particular chapter, it was terrific. We had such a good time chatting that Chad and I wanted to continue the conversation. A couple weeks after the junket, we caught up on Zoom once again. This time, to talk about the franchise, and how it’s grown throughout the years. The director talked about the time and energy that goes into making these films, and the level of talent on-screen he seeks out. With Chapter 4 bringing on Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, and even Bill Skargard, one of Mr. Stahelski’s many talents is getting the right actors and stunt performers involved in this story. We look forward to more from Chad, and would like to thank him sincerely for taking the time to speak with us.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is open for business, and I can’t recommend this one enough! Check out our interview with Scott Adkins, and our interview with Hiroyuki Sanada and Shamier Anderson.

The film has the following synopsis: With the price on his head ever increasing, legendary hit man John Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Japan to Berlin.
