MAJOR SPOILERS for Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. Consider yourself warned. The much anticipated Zack Snyder movie is now streaming on Netflix, and the release of Rebel Moon 2 is just a few months away. The director spoke with Entertainment Weekly to tease that the sequel will be more of a “war movie” than the first.

The ending of Rebel Moon found Kora (Sofia Boutella) and her ragtag fighters retreating back to Veldt, but Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) and his army have been tasked by Regent Belisarius (Fra Free) with retrieving her. It’s also revealed that Kora is actually the adopted daughter of Belisarius, so the stakes have been raised considerably.

Part Two is a war movie,” Snyder said. “We know that Noble’s alive and Belisarius has given him the task of finding his daughter and bringing her back to him at all costs. So the stakes have risen for the village from ‘hey, we want some of your grain’ to now ‘you’re harboring the most wanted fugitive in the history of the galaxy.’” The director teased that a large portion of Rebel Moon 2 would be a heroic last stand on Veldt, with the village attempting to stand against a superior force. “It was fun to plan the battle and try to figure out how Kora and the village could stand a chance against a world-destroying spacecraft,” Snyder said.

Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver won’t just be one battle, but it will also reveal more about what really happened to the royal family and the role Kora played in their fate. “The title has to do with Kora,” Snyder said. “We learn something in Part Two about Kora’s ‘crimes,’ what she’s wanted for and why the Imperium is after her.

Here’s the official logline for Rebel Moon: “When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.

Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire will be released on Netflix on December 22nd, followed by Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver on April 19, 2024. You can check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here, and be sure to let us know what you thought of the film as well!
