Trailer for Kaiju mockbuster film Raiga: God of the Monsters stomps online

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Since GODZILLA came out in 1954, kaiju films have been a mainstay in Japanese film culture. In fact, Rodan and Mothra were originally stars of their own series before joining up with Godzilla in pre-AVENGERS-esque crossovers. Now, some kaiju stood the test of time and even some international success, like GODZILLA, GAMERA, and the aforementioned Rodan and Mothra, while others are…well…RAIGA.

RAIGA: GOD OF THE MONSTERS isn't the first film to star Raiga, but its the one coming out here in North America on April 14th, presumably to capitalize on the American GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS film – not unlike how the Asylum and other mockbuster distributors will put out sh*t like TRANSMORPHERS and ATLANTIC RIM.

Anyway, you can see the trailer above, and below is the poster and official synopsis:

Global warming leads to excessive melting of the southern polar ice cap, disrupting Earth’s ecosystem. The receding ice brings long dormant ancient sea creatures back to life, monsters that set their sights on Japan. Among the kaiju is an enormous sea beast the locals refer to as the legendary Raiga. The monster attacks the city of Asakusa, bringing death and destruction as he tramples building and lays waste to the military. Can Raiga be stopped, or will all of Japan be destroyed by his fury?

So what do you guys think? Does RAIGA look like a good-bad fun time…or just a bad time? And who are your favorite unsung kaiju? Either way, sound off in the comments!
