Yeah, we've been hearing this for a while, but we all harbored a secret hope that it might be wrong. But alas, Neil Blomkamp has pretty much confirmed that the HALO movie is dead. The big screen adaptation of the insanely popular XBox title looked to be moving along nicely for a while, but with concerns over an escalating budget, it looks like the studios have finally and ultimately pulled the plug. "The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank…" Blomkamp told Creativity Online. Which sucks, I thought the work he did on those shorts was fantastic and boded wonderfully for the HALO movie. Blomkamp was also asked about the much more realistic depiction of sci-fi that he was pursuing, saying that "I was going to push that as far as [I could] until the studios kind of threw a noose around me. I was going to go as far with that as I possibly could. I wanted it to feel like the most brutal, real version of science fiction in a war environment that you've seen in a while. And Universal was on board with that. I don't really remember what Fox thought about it, but Universal seemed down with it. It would have been cool, it would have been a unique take on things, science fiction in a dirty, organic way." Click HERE to check out the rest of the interview.

good
I doubt that the movie itself is dead, I think they just canned Neil and will eventually get it back on track. I hated what I saw from the Halo shorts. They looked like the movie Predator, 80's effects and stupid use of thermal vision and all. I know the budgets were low on that, but I think the super-real, 80's style sci-fi would have been the worst way to go. Doesn't capture the Halo feel at ...

If they do continue with the project, I'll sleep a lot better without Neil behind it.

I think the real question is what ever happened to that live action Metroid movie! The live action commercial for the first Metroid Prime was tits.

All I can say is BOOOO!!!
I think it's a shame the film isn't coming to fruition...as yet. But maybe in the long run it will be worth while. I know we are all pissed now, but if the movie stunk, everyone would be pissed and we would never see another Halo sequel. I hope that the filmmakers do it justice when it gets made so we can keep exploring the Halo universe from now until eternity! There are so many stories to ...

I seriously doubt after making $300M in it's first week of release the idea of making a Halo movie is dead. It's as popular as it's ever been.

I dont' really care either way. A Halo movie might have been kind of cool but the game is overrated.

You'd think since the game made 300mil in one week that they might reconsider making a movie.

Too bad
I was really looking forward to it. I think this movie could have been amazing, all the right pieces were fitting into place. hopefully they will reconsider.

Good, I'm glad they cancelled it, it would have been a waste of time and money on some boring game on a substandard console. If you so badly want to see the same crap, go watch Doom and move on with your life.

Thank you! As a fan of the games, I must admit that I'm very happy the movie is officially not happening. Sure, I was pretty stoked about it, especially when Peter Jackson came aboard as executive producer, but I still had a feeling that it would have ended up like every other video game adaptation out there. I'm taking this as good news.

how in the hell can a game a popular as halo not get made? budget problems i dont understand this in an age when we can make dinousours come to life and spaceships can fly into the sun i would think they could easily make this move on a reasonable budget

THANK GOD!
i love halo as much as the next person (maybe a little more), but this is excellent news. at least this shows that hollywood is SOMEWHAT thinking (now they just need to axe the escape from new york remake project with brett ratner).

A shame...
Well like every videogame movie, if it was done right it would've been awesome. I would have liked to see a Halo movie just out of pure curiosity. Remember a while back when Latino review called an early draft of the script, "The Saving Private Ryan" of videogame movies? That's just the kind of thing the industry needs to gain a different perception and approach to making these things. At l...

At least they had the smarts (or stupidity?) to kill it and not rush it out for the sake of cashing in on Halo 3.

Let it die. Halo doesn't need a movie adaptation. Besides, the movie would run the risk of becoming the next "Doom".

Thats good, I beleive Halo should be left as a game only. Most Video game movies are horrible anyways.
