Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance trailer offers look at 2022 video game

The 2019 Terminator sequel Terminator: Dark Fate (watch it HERE) was supposed to be the first entry in a new trilogy… but so were the two previous sequels, Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys, and the box office hauls for all three of them were so underwhelming that the trilogy plans were scrapped each time. The Dark Fate timeline does continue, though. Developer Cats Who Play and publisher Slitherine have announced that they’re working on a video game called Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, which they’re aiming to get out into the world (on PC, via Steam) sometime in 2022. Promotional videos for the game can be seen in the embed above.

Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance is described as “a gritty RTS” that

puts you in the middle of the Future Wars between humanity and Legion’s synthetic intelligent machine network. Take command and lead your army to foil Legion’s plan to destroy humanity or play as one of three factions in skirmish and multiplayer. In the single-player mode, users assume the role of a Founders faction commander who leads their troops in the effort to thwart Legion’s machinations against humanity. Founders, Legion, and the Resistance all enter the picture as playable factions in Defiance’s multiplayer and skirmish modes.

Directed by Tim Miller from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes, and Billy Ray, Terminator: Dark Fate only acknowledged the events of The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, ignoring the other sequels that weren’t made by Dark Fate producer James Cameron. The film found that Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor was

a grizzled lone wolf who must team up with a mechanically enhanced female soldier to protect another young woman targeted by Terminators.

Hamilton was joined in the cast by Mackenzie Davis as cybernetically enhanced super soldier Grace, Natalia Reyes as new heroine Dani Ramos, Diego Boneta as Dani’s brother, Gabriel Luna as the latest villainous Terminator, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as an older, bearded Terminator who goes by the name Carl.
