Since we're now running out of vampire properties to adapt, it's time to start scraping the bottom of the barrel for the next best thing, werewolf movies. Now while some may turn out to be pretty awesome (THE WOLFMAN), some, like this newly announced remake of THE HOWLING, I presume, will not.

The original HOWLING, directed by Joe Dante, followed a woman being stalked by a serial killer who ended up being a werewolf, and somehow this was a good enough concept to spawn SIX sequels, not counting this latest one to be known as THE HOWLING: REBORN.

The film is being helmed by studio exec-turned-first-time-director Joe Nimziki, who is using his own script. Pardon me if I don’t have absolute faith in this project yet, but I suppose anything's possible.

Extra Tidbit: The question for any werewolf movie these days is if the wolf be CGI or a physical costume. Will it matter?

I love the original (and a few of the sequels are ok), but if done right, this could be fun.

Why Not A New Werewolf Series?
Some of these old movies were OK, but we know the storylines and are accustomed to really good makeup, CGI, etc. What's really left is to do new stories, not rehash what's already floating around on 2:00AM television.
Kelly Armstrong's book 'Bitten' is a prime candidate for resurrecting the werewolf genre. So is Carrie Vaughn's series about Kitty the werewolf. There's lots of origin...

Come on!!
I love the howling series i have all of them on dvd. But come on making a remake of it, i don't think it will make that much money. Yeah i will see it on dvd, but i will not add it to my dvd collection.

well i find when it comes to werewolves, it doesnt matter weather is CGI or costume or a mix, how the actual werewolf is designed / looks holds a little more sway for me, for instance, in Cursed, their werewolf looked more like a bear then a wolf most of the time.

Maybe.
Howling was alright. This remake could turn out to be entertaining. The only thing questionable is the director.

One of my favorite werewolf flicks is Silver Bullet. I could see this getting remade, sometime soon, by Platinum Dunes.

CGI Werewolves never look convincing enough just look at Cursed,New Moon, and American Werewolf in Paris...just awful

The first Howling movie had a campy goofiness to it that paid homage to the classic universal Wolf Man,it'll be hard to top that.

The Classic Sex/Transformation scene between two werewolves is the best.Hope they keep the dark comedy element to it.

For its time "The Howling" had the most awesome werewolf transformation scenes-along with other werewolf & shape-shifter films with similar effects. I'm glad this will be updated-suck or not. It's startin' to feel like my senior year all over again with this news and "Clash Of The Titans" being updated.

I think AITH covered it a couple weeks ago, but these are two completely different sites on the same network, bro. JoBlo hasn't done an article on it yet.
