Just what the hell is this movie and where did it come from?

Those are questions I raced to find the answers to after seeing this phenomenal trailer for the sci-fi samurai epic, THE CUP OF TEARS. It’s SIN CITY meets 300 meets HERO, and by the end of the trailer, meets STAR WARS. Yeah, I know.

Here’s what I can gather: The film was shot in Slovenia and is being finished in Ireland by Irish filmmaker Gary Shore. Despite its content, no part of this movie is from Asia, and it has yet to land a distributor, though I feel that’s probably going to change once this trailer starts circulating around. A rough synopsis is as follows:

"Follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell."

That’s great, but just how the hell do we end up with samurai dodging rockets and fighting space ships by the end? I’ve no idea, but I can’t wait to find out.

Extra Tidbit: I love when something like this comes out of nowhere to knock me on my ass. Ireland? Really?

I'd rather play a video game.. since that's basically what this is.

Oh and I do agree with the sky Captain comment. But I have to say I enjoyed that.

Wow
This looks awesome! If anything looks a lot better than Ninja Assassin. I'm down and will see this, but we have all been fooled before so.

This looks like that Aeon Flux shit, or that stupid vampire movie with Mila Jovovich. People complain about George Lucas's use of green screen, but no one screams about shit like this?

Really?...Really? This looks like a huge pile of shit!! I'm pretty sure the writer of this article is either a) pushing/attempting to hype their friend's movie or b) is purposely looking for obscure movies and hyping them on the off chance that they will become big in the future!
I have no problem with the storyline but after 30 seconds you can tell that this is done by a bunch of ham ...

Maybe the twist is no one talks in the whole movie... Actually throw Dark City in there with the whole ending/space thing.. Spirit Town, comeon...

The effects may work, will be interesting, but wouldnt be surprised if it sucked.

I'm only worried about the "too much style" syndrome. Effects have to be top notch or it could look very cheap

This looks visually exciting. Hope the plot actually holds up.
